Sunshine

She is the first light in dark skies,
the girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
She steals away this heart of mine,
she covers me in warm sunshine.

Her smile sets spark to summer days,
her laughter takes my breath away.
Fresh cut grass, dandelion wine,
she covers me in warm sunshine.

Tonight, my guitar gently weeps;
in my soul, melancholy creeps.
Someday soon when planets align,
she’ll cover me in warm sunshine.

Happy Saturday, all! My heart and mind are laser focused on family right now, and my heart feels a bit heavy because I miss my kids and grandkids palpably! But August beckons with promises of sunshine – we will be heading down to Florida for a visit with both of our kids in another week! I guarantee there will be a few big surprises (for one, the grandkids don’t know we are coming!) and plenty of wonderful memories made.

When I viewed the video “Cover Me in Sunshine” by Pink, it immediately made me think of Posie Mae. She is my sparkly pink girly girl, full of love, sass and personality! She is just so much fun, with a wicked sense of humor from her Dad and sweet, nurturing side from her Mama. Hatcher is equally as funny and sweet, and each time we visit him his personality has blossomed even more. He’s all boy – he loves his cars and trucks and working on things with the tools from his toolbox. He is equally sweet, but has a calmer demeanor. We’ll be visiting Vince and Natalie in Palm City first, then wrapping up the trip with our “surprise” visit to the grandkids. I cannot wait to see the look on their faces when we walk in that door!

I was looking through my pictures of Posie, and of course I have so many. This particular photo I took of her in her car seat a few years back just struck me with her simple beauty, the perfection of her face and delicate features as a baby. Yes, I know I am biased, but she’s the most beautiful little girl. It brings tears to my eyes to see how much she’s has grown – she is starting pre-school next month. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and are covered in your own sunshine!
