California Dreams
The San Diego sun kisses my skin
Climbing the craggy rocks at Torrey Pines.
I relish the deep sense of peace within,
Savoring sips of St. Helena wine.
Above bay waters, sturgeon moon shines bright,
Beckoning me to brave the chilly air.
Bossa nova grooves echo in the night,
And we dance the samba without a care.
I’ve never been to Big Sur or LA,
Or climbed the rocky mountains of Humboldt.
I’ll hike Redwood Forest another day,
For Napa Valley has my heart and soul.
Reality hits me harder, it seems,
When I wake up from California dreams.

Happy Sunday, friends and family! I am a day late in posting my poem for the challenge, life has been busy!
The topic last week took me back to our various trips to California. We’ve been to San Francisco, San Diego, La Jolla, San Jose, Lake Tahoe, and the many cities and towns of Napa Valley. We made two trips to Napa, flying into San Francisco and staying at a hotel there for a day before jaunting off to visit a few of our favorite wineries. In 2014, right after a major 6.0 earthquake, we stayed in Napa and witnessed the heartbreaking destruction. In 2016, we stayed at the beautiful Hotel Yountville resort and celebrated our wedding anniversary at our favorite Hess Winery on Mount Veder. The highlight of both of these trips was being able to meet up with my Blogophilia sisters Leta Falo, Dahlia Ramone and Christine Wichman! Oh my God, what fun! So many great memories, we were laughing and carrying on so much we almost got kicked out of an Italian restaurant! In 2015 we took a Breuning-Hess family vacation to San Diego, and had a blast with our adult kids. I would love to go back to Calil again, but since that time our lives have been busy with weddings, work and grandbabies.
It’s a beautiful weekend, and the sun is shining. We are hoping to get out to a winery today and enjoy some fresh air, something we haven’t done in many, many months. I hope you have an amazing week ahead!
