Under the Light of a Lunar Eclipse
September is ending, the dusk grows cold;
Maple leaves turn shades of butternut squash.
Autumn’s never-ending drama unfolds,
The horizon painted colors panache.
I shiver and sigh as autumn breeze blows,
Giving me goosebumps, entangling my hair.
The moon beckons us with its amber glow,
And the call of the loons floats through the air.
Take my hand and guide me through the dark night,
Embrace me beneath the blooming blood moon.
Let us dance until its last fading light;
Kiss me softly ‘til I’m breathless and swoon.
I am starstruck in love, tight in its grips
Under the light of a lunar eclipse.

Happy Saturday! Today was just glorious, an Indian Summer kind of day on one of the last days of September. It was a welcome relief from this past week full of dreary weather, rain and of course stressing about Hurricane Helene, which was headed straight for Katie & Brenton in Panama City. They were spared a direct hit, and basically just got some wind and rain, never lost power. But it’s been absolutely heartbreaking seeing the devastation in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and North & South Carolina! The stormwater, flooding and destruction left behind is horrific, and I keep all those affected by the storm in my thoughts and prayers.
Anxiety has been high all week long due to hurricane and work stress, so I was needing some poetic purging and wanted to write something light and refreshing. I was so busy at work that I didn’t even get to peek at the topic until this morning. I was going to write as soon as I showered, but the sun was out and it was just gorgeous outside. Dan and I decided to go to Nall’s Farm Market and do our pumpkin shopping instead. There were spotted lanternflies all over the place, one got in my hair and I shrieked and laughed. There were other women doing the same, it was rather comical. At home, we cleaned off the front porch, arranged hay bales and pumpkins on the front steps. We hadn’t eaten lunch, so we decided on early dinner from Finn Thai, a local Thai food restaurant. While Dan was out picking up the food, I penned this sonnet. Once he got back, we ate, watched the hummingbird duo on the front porch, and then took a walk around the lake as the sun was setting. It has been a wonderful day with no specific plans, which we both needed.
That’s all for now. One of my favorite months, October, is just days away – I’m awaiting the gorgeous turning of the leaves. It’s going to be beautiful! Have a nice weekend!
Xoxo,
Colleen
