Indian Summer

Indian Summer

Sun sits high in October skies
in fields of blue where eagle flies
Geese frolic as the chipmunks play
on this Indian summer day.

The warm sweat drips down from my brow,
wishing fall would break, here and now.
Watching crimson leaves blow astray
on this Indian summer day.

Soon the autumn will come unbound
with frost like diamonds on the ground.
I shiver in the cool breeze sway
on this Indian summer day.

Sun sits high in October skies
on this Indian summer day.

Mood: Dreamy
Inspiration: “Indian Summer” by The Doors

I am trying to participate in The Marvin October MultiMedia Challenge. I tried a photo challenge and got about halfway through in September…. I doubt if I can make every single post this month as October is a busy work month! This just came to me quickly as I searched through years of poems – I could have sworn after close to 20 years of steady writing, that SURELY I had written a poem on Indian Summer. Alas, I did not. So I whipped up a quick Kyrielle Sonnet!

It is feeling like Indian Summer now. Hot, humid, rainy…. Here in northern Virginia, the leaves have only STARTED turning. A few maples in town are already turning red, but not much change at our lake or backyard. I’m ready for weather to cool – I NEED SWEATER WEATHER! I am eager to wear my boots, legs and sweaters, yeah! That’s all for now everyone. Happy Friday!

Xoxo,
Colleen
