In Good Spirits

In Good Spirits

The bottle breathes as the cork gives way,
red wine pools like velvet dusk in crystal,
releasing a bouquet of oak and black currants.
We sit by the crackling fire,
the light of the moon spilling silver across the table,
the world softened by its warm glow.

In good spirits,
we raise our glasses and sip crimson bliss
with locked eyes and knowing smiles.
It feels as if the night could stretch on endlessly,
that the weight of our troubles might dissolve
like the damp mist rising from the earth.

The moon watches intently from its perch,
silent and unchanging,
as we pour another glass.
The ruby wine quietly whirls and swirls,
as dark as the ancient secrets
we no longer need to tell.

Happy Saturday! It has been a crazy week. I had my bunion revision surgery on December 10, and it went very well. One day post-op and I was already hobbling around my kitchen, making a cheeseball and Dark Chocolate Blondies for our office holiday potluck lunch and cookie exchange! I was using crutches and a boot, now I’m able to hobble around with a soft surgical shoe most of the day. I’m wearing the lovely surgical boot if I go out, for protection and warmth.

I only had to take one day off, and have been working from home the rest of the week. I was able to get all of my Christmas decorating finished before the surgery, but not the shopping/wrapping. The most frustrating thing is that I can’t drive yet, and I do have some last minute shopping that will have to be done online. This surgery was minimally invasive, and I can tell a HUGE difference from the original bunion surgery that was done 12 years ago. I’m much more mobile and only having to take one pain medication first thing in the morning – that is when it hurts the most, after resting all night LOL!

I hope you’re enjoying the spirit of the season and taking some time for self-care, which is so important this time of year. Sending holiday cheer and love to all!

Xoxo,
Colleen
