Stone Cold Blues

Stone Cold Blues

My doctor gave bad news today;
I bowed my head, began to pray.
My mind is racing, so confused…
I’m diagnosed with Stone Cold Blues.

The howling winds and snowdrifts blow,
I’m trapped inside, nowhere to go.
These frozen nights slowly diffuse…
I’m diagnosed with Stone Cold Blues.

The deep freeze killed the backyard mice,
The magic garden turned to ice.
Florida tempts with balmy views…
I’m diagnosed with Stone Cold Blues.

My doctor gave bad news today…
I’m diagnosed with Stone Cold Blues.

Happy Saturday! This is a whimsical Kyrielle sonnet I did in less than 20 minutes just for fun.  And HEEEEYYY!!  It’s the last day of January – Praise the Lord! Well, I should be finished filing all my January returns, but there are still a few more to go that I have missing information on. I’ll get there, but I’m just glad tomorrow is February.

Like most of the USA, we have been in a deep freeze for the last week – the cold has been in the single digits, wind chills dipping below zero. I’m wear triple layers in the house, which is extremely unusual for me – I’m usually warm all the time lol. I threw some carrots up towards the ridge for the poor deer, and they came skittering down to the bottom of the hill by our deck. They are still there, frozen solid. (The carrots, not the deer – they can’t even walk on the snow because of the ice layer!) It’s crazy cold, and we are looking forward to a little bit of a warm up mid-week. I really can’t complain because the power has remained on, and the pipes haven’t frozen. It hasn’t mattered too much to me personally, since I’ve been working long hours inside all month. I’m looking forward to going back to “normal” work hours starting Tuesday, and having my weekends back. It would also be nice for it to warm up into the 30s, at least to be able to walk around the lake. The path is solid ice, and the neighbors can’t even walk their dogs down there.

Anyway, hope you’re staying warm and cozy wherever you are! I hope to be online more after this weekend just to check in with everyone. Til then, stay safe and warm! Xoxo

Love,
Colleen

  1. Nice sonnet, I can feel the chill! Methinks many of you Earthlings are going to be diagnosed with this malady. Hoping that you survive the Arctic freeze and that things warm up for you! KUDOS Dear Earthling! ❤
