Reborn

Reborn

Bluebirds flit and swoop
searching dewy grass for grub
at spring equinox

young daffodils stretch
reaching higher for the sun
in yellow shock waves

tree buds burst in style
cherry blossom pink petals
breathtaking spring blooms

scent of hyacinth
purple ribbons on cool breeze
nurture my tired bones

a lone robin sits
cocks her head to sense earthworms
in the fertile soil

glass windchimes twinkle
sweet melody rides the wind
music for the soul

nature surrounds me
as peace penetrates my heart
and I am reborn

Happy Saturday! Spring is definitely in the air – the landscape is morphing from brown and gray to fields of green and colorful hues. Yes, it’s still tax season and I’m working long days – but I’ve had the past few weekends free. It’s been great to be able to just take a walk in my own backyard and experience the blooming of the daffodils, narcissus and hyacinth. The weeping cherry is blossoming in the front yard, but my two backyard Kwanzan Cherries are still barely budding. This will be their second year, and I’m excited to see their beautiful pink blossoms.

It is a good thing that I spent last weekend working in the front and back yards. I completed weeding and cleaning up the beds, except for the rock garden up on the ridge. That will have to wait until after Easter….which is next weekend, hard to believe! We are hosting dinner for our family, so the next week as time permits, I’ll be cleaning, prepping and baking. The good thing is that Easter dinner is not as labor intensive as Thanksgiving. I try to keep things simple with baked spiral ham and a few sides, Dan’s favorite Key Lime pie (IF I can find the Nellie’s Key West Lime Juice … Giant was out of it this past week when I checked, so we’ll have to try Wegman’s and Harris Teeter next week.) I was thinking about attempting an Oreo cheesecake, my friend Curtis made some for his Christmas cookie exchange and it was outrageously delicious! Maybe if I get inspired…

Do yourself a favor – get out in nature and just walk or sit quietly and observe… Invoke all your senses. Take a deep breath and feel the cool, crisp air in your lungs, as the sun warms your skin. Notice the scents of the hyacinth or fresh cut grass, listen to the birdsong and windchime music as the spring breeze blows. Let the serenity of this new season calm and invigorate you at the same time. It’s Spring! Xoxo

Love,
Colleen
