Twisted German Proverbs

Twisted German Proverbs

chill fills the night air
the universe has spoken
living on a prayer

world tainted with fear
when all rules have been broken
das ist nicht mein bier

storm clouds fill the sky
hometown train fades into black
time to say goodbye

stench of twisted fate
there will be no coming back
from this police state

pay no attention
to shadows in the curtains
with cruel intentions

do not be afraid
gut ding will weile haben
don’t drink the Kool-Aid

Hello and Happy Saturday! This is a rhyming haiku series which I wrote quickly, off the top of my head. The German proverb part was hard, but I ended up putting a little twist on them to guide the poem’s direction. It got me thinking about the atrocities of the holocaust and what must have been happening at that time. Is it really not our business (it IS our business) and will good things take time (or will they never happen?) I try to add that dash of hope at the end, that good things will happen in time.

It has been a whirlwind week. I attended my first Firm Day event for YHB, and it was so nice meeting people in person from other offices. Our team won the 6-week Fitness Challenge, but we did not make it to the “playoffs” to compete for the coveted Firm Day trophy. It was fun watching and cheering everyone on. And this was totally unexpected and shocking – I received a Community Champion Elite Award for my work as the Mental Health Employee Resource Group Chairman! I was completely stunned and honored! I had to go onstage with our CEO & HR Director in front of over 200 people to accept the award. It was surreal and such an amazing feeling to be recognized! I had organized a charity clothing drive for a local abused woman’s shelter, and I drove the donations over to them during Happy Hour. The best part of the day was a meet and greet dinner for members of the Mental Health ERG, where we got to meet in person and share stories. I’m so grateful and blessed. I love YHB and wish I’d found this company earlier in my career!

Today we are off to my sister’s house to celebrate my niece’s 11th birthday. My nephew and his family from northern PA will be there, as they’re spending the weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and hoping for some sun so we can enjoy the pool. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Xoxo, Colleen
