Solstice
Winter winds pierce deep,
fingers numb like brittle stone;
white frost takes its throne.
Overhead the dark clouds creep,
migrant geese searching for home.
Ice splits the bare trees,
its stillness sharp as a blade,
while summer dreams fade.
Winter dims sweet memories,
cold whispers of night invade.
Shadows stretch and break,
regrets fleeting, pain contrite,
as snowflakes alight.
Our weary bones ache
while the earth dreams of sunlight.
Hell freezes over.
Solstice wields its heavy hand,
in full command,
while we dream of spring clover
and sunshine to grace the land.

Well, winter is finally here today. And with that, the longest night of the year is tonight! For those of you who abhor winter, the good news is that beginning tomorrow, the days will begin to lengthen. I have found that the best thing to do is embrace the cozy hush of winter as much as possible. I like to set the mood with the Christmas lights on and the fireplace lit. But I am so hot natured, that I can’t bundle up too much or I’ll be hot flashing lol!
I’m missing the kids and grandkids this time of year, even though I just saw them a month ago. I wish we could be there with them on Christmas, as children truly do make the holidays magical. It was great to see them on Thanksgiving, but Christmas is much more fun and all about THEM! There is nothing better than to see the excitement and joy twinkling in their eyes! We are already planning on sharing the 2025 Christmas holidays in Florida with them.
I’m making progress with my foot healing after surgery, but it is so tender now. I get the stitches out Monday and I’m hoping that will help some of the discomfort. The worst part of this post-op progress is that I can’t drive – and it is MAKING ME CRAZY, especially with so much to do for the holidays!! Plus I’m very independent and don’t like being chauffeured around. Dan is such a wonderful husband, and I’m grateful he’s shuttling me around. But sometimes you just need to DRIVE, blast music loud and just go wherever the hell you want without explaining WHY you need to go to Walgreen’s again when you were just there 3 days ago LOL!!!!!!!! Do ya feel me, ladies??? Haha!!! I’m just venting, hopefully I’ll get good news soon about when I can stop wearing this big boot and drive again. I’ll survive!
Wishing all of you and your families a lovely Christmas, Happy Holidays and wonderful New Year full of love, joy and blessings!
Xoxo,
Colleen

Beautiful poetic tribute to the winter solstice! Winter is in full force here on Mars – a forecasted high of -6°F and a low of -101°F, HA! KUDOS and Merry Christmas, Dear Earthling! ❤
