Starless Sky

Starless Sky

The keyboard beckons on a Friday night;
Eyes wide open, the weekend has begun.
We search for connections in the dim light,
Like robots racing the fast-fading sun.

Hiding behind false avatars of youth,
We mask fine lines on an old, weathered face.
Searching the web for some semblance of truth,
Shackled, alone, stranded in cyberspace.

We smash the chains as our tired souls break free,
Pushing aside our discontent and strife.
Deep into the black velvet night, we flee
To embrace tangible pleasures of life.

Eyes scan the dark void as gray clouds float by
And pale moon rises in the starless sky.

Happy Saturday! You could say the King Crimson song titles kind of steered my direction this week. I’m not too familiar with the band, but I was surprised to see they actually had quite a few songs in their short tenure. I need to give them a listen sometime.

We’re off to a Halloween party later this afternoon that one of my coworkers is hosting. It should be fun, and yes, we are going in costume! (Matching costumes, if you can believe that.) At first, Dan was NOT thrilled about dressing up – he is low key and just wanted to wear his hockey jersey! I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I’ll post pics later if I remember. The weather has been just perfect for autumn the past few days. I think the leaves are finally beginning to change, but I am hearing from the Weather Channel that this year it’s going to be a “Fall Foilage Flop!” Grrrr, I hope not, because I have waited all year for some beautiful autumn colors!

Hope you all have an amazing, beautiful autumn weekend!

Xoxo,
Colleen

  1. Ah, hiding behind false avatars of youth – verrrrry true! Cyberspace is a double edged sword – forging wonderful connections, but at times isolating us from real life. Great sonnet – KUDOS Dear Earthling! 😀 ❤
