Whispered Endearments
winter dusk unfolds
with pink and purple skyscape
above snowy fields
glowing Christmas lights
cast rainbows on the ceiling
as warm fire crackles
vivid memories
of Christmas Days long ago
tumble through my mind
Christmas carols drift
in the cold December air
as hot tears spill out
sensing my sorrow
you enfold me in your arms
sweet comforts of home
you speak to my soul
whispering soft endearments
formula of love

Merry Christmas, all! Slowly I am getting ready for Christmas. It’s been a real challenge this week – and I’m just taking it one day at a time. I finished my “minimal” Christmas decorating around the house (meaning I didn’t pull out ALL of the thousand boxes of decorations lol). I’ve got my Christmas cards mailed, that was a big accomplishment yesterday. Baked Dark Chocolate Blondies for a cookie exchange party. Still no gifts wrapped – I’ll start that tomorrow as today will be a busy day with a hair appointment and a party to attend. ‘Tis the season!
This poem touches on the different emotions that surround the holidays. Memories of Christmases from childhood, mourning those loved ones and relatives who have left us, a longing to be with family far away (which will come true this year), joy surrounding the beauty of the season, and a timeless love that brings comfort and peace. I’m blessed to have the wonderful people I have in my life – my husband, children, mother, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, coworkers and neighbors who are so special to me and have brought so much joy, laughter and happiness. It’s nice to stop in the crazy whirlwind of the holiday season to think about these people and what Christmas really means. That’s what this morning brought for me, a few moments to pause, reflect and write it out. If you are reading this, YOU are very special to me. I wish you all the blessings, peace and joy of this Christmas season!
Xoxo,
Colleen
