First Frost

First Frost

change is everywhere
the gentle breeze hints of fall
soft twist of crisp air

later comes the dawn
catbirds cast their final call
time for moving on

wild geese roost at home
gliding across clear blue lake
so begins the gloam

hues morph in dusk sky
clouds heavy until rain breaks
and crystal tears dry

September beckons
as the summer sun bereaves
and autumn reckons

nature has no cost
so let’s dance in golden leaves
until the first frost

Happy Saturday! I am so glad that September is finally here, that means autumn is only two weeks away technically. I decorated the house for autumn last weekend, and it look so cozy. I love the jewel tone colors of fall, there’s something about it that brings joy. There is a hint of coolness in the breeze, which I’m grateful for after a miserably hot and dry summer!

We had a nice relaxing Friday night, with salmon teriyaki dinner and a quick fire pit. We were enjoying the sunset and trying to do some stargazing, when I saw a weird string of moving lights to the south. I was able to snap a few photos, but the video didn’t turn out. We figured out that it was one of the Starlink satellites, and a quick google search revealed exactly which one we saw. I had no idea, but there are 6,350 Starlink satellites up there in orbit, only about 6,290 are functional! Apparently the light from the sun below the horizon was lighting up portions of the satellite as it passed! We were curious about what they looked like, they’re only about 9 feet in length and 4.5 feet wide. They orbit the Earth at a speed of every 90 minutes, and have a lifespan of about 5 years. When they deorbit, they are supposed to disintegrate upon entry into the atmosphere (I can only hope so, would hate for it to drop on someone’s house!)  I got Dan a telescope one Christmas and we’re still trying to figure it out…. one of these days we will get it working properly.

That’s all I got….no plans this weekend which is NICE! Have a great one, family and friends!

Xoxo,
Colleen
