Good Friday Rain

Good Friday Rain

Awakened by the sound of rain,
Soft pitter patter in my brain.
Good Friday dawns so solemnly,
I feel the peace wash over me.

Spring blossoms burst in greening fields,
Refreshed with dew, their petals yield
A fragrant grace so heavenly.
I feel the peace wash over me.

The mid-day sky grows dark with clouds,
I bow my head and pray aloud.
Reminded that my soul is free,
I feel the peace wash over me.

Awakened by the sound of rain,
I feel the peace wash over me.

Happy and Holy Saturday, family and friends! I have been very MIA on the writing scene the past few months, working in the tax department keeps me super busy from January through April. And I certainly have no time or patience for stupid April Fool’s pranks. (I do have a wicked sense of humor, but I actually find pranks to be downright mean.) I did take a few minutes out of my busy week of work, extension filing and Easter preparations to write a quick sonnet.

I grew up Catholic, went to Catholic grade school, even sent my own children to Catholic school for part of their education because it a better option than the public schools and provided wonderful grounding for them. So the Catholic tradition is deeply rooted within me – and always will be. There has always been so much emotion surrounding Good Friday and Jesus’s crucifixion, even moreso with the way things are going in the  world these days. I did have a busy day this Good Friday with work commitments, appointments, grocery shopping and cooking dinner – so it didn’t leave me with a lot of time to focus and pray on that day. Today thinking about it took me way back in time, to when we did the beautiful Stations of the Cross at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in my hometown. When you’re young and restless, you don’t take in the full gravity and meaning…. but each of those stations and the prayers are truly significant and breathtakingly beautiful.

To this day I still visualize the happenings of Holy Week and pray – and I do miss those traditions. We belonged to St. David Catholic Church while in Florida, but never really sought a church home up here in Virginia. I am spiritual in my own way now, as I walk in nature or sit on my front porch or patio and give thanks. I owe so much to Jesus Christ and God, who both saved me many times throughout my life. I have much gratitude for Their Power in my life and my loved ones. So this Easter weekend, I plan to be very grateful and mindful of the many blessings my family has experienced by the grace of God. I wish you all a Happy Easter, Passover, Spring, whatever you celebrate! Xoxo

Love,
Colleen
