Overwhelm
lost in the slipstream
on the cusp of overwhelm
perched on the abyss
living in the past
my mind in absentia
unfocused, empty
an endless puzzle
mismatched pieces with no fit
scattered on the ground
the night wind whispers
moon glows in white innocence
crystal clarity
I breathe in cold air
exhaling negative thoughts
and begin again

Happy Saturday, all. It was a challenging week physically and mentally for me . I’m dealing with a few health issues that hopefully will turn out to be nothing more than an inconvenience. Lately I’m juggling lots of appointments, along with keeping up with work and life. But I’m doing okay, so no worries right now.
This poem is just about that point of overwhelm that we sometimes reach – where things feel out of control, life is coming at you hard, and we are a little paralyzed at what to do next. It is like you have a long list of chores and don’t know where to start. I guess the answer is easy – just START! Often we just flounder in this state of indecision – treading water, not making much progress – or at least it doesn’t seem as if we are. But beneath the surface, what if we are actually progressing, healing, changing? Maybe our mind and spirit needs to have this period of overwhelm to crash and then pick up the pieces? I’m not a psychotherapist, but something tells me that there is work being done inside of us during times of overwhelm and lost focus. We can only hope.
Enough pondering – I am hoping you all have a relaxing, beautiful weekend! ❤
Xoxo,
Colleen
