Envy Street

Envy Street

On a quiet street, beneath the starlight
Behind lace curtains, our secrets will keep.
A private soirée, two hearts taking flight,
But in the shadows, nosy neighbors peep.

Prying eyes lurk behind the windowpane
To catch a glimpse of secrets they desire.
Shallow souls, feeding on another’s pain,
Careless tongues spread rumors and fuel the fire.

But let them talk, for we hold love’s embrace
And pay no heed to whispers in the breeze.
No envy in our hearts, just calm and grace;
We have no need to fight or to appease.

By candlelight we shall cherish each night,
Unfazed by neighbors’ envy and their spite.

Hello and Happy Friday! Nosy neighbors, well what a wild topic to tackle this week! I just couldn’t make the weird food prompt work in this sonnet. But my personal take on a weird food most people won’t eat is snails, aka escargot. I have only eaten them twice in my life, once in 7th grade Home Economics class, and then in Paris in 2002, where I experienced an allergic reaction of hives that lasted for two months! Never again, lol!

I suspect that we probably all look out our windows at what’s going on in our worlds. It’s what makes us human, after all. Like it or not, there’s a little bit of nosy neighbor in us all. Thinking on this led me down a dark path, where if you feel like you are being watched, you just want to thumb your nose at them or flick them off! You may think they have no life, or maybe they are jealous of you or maybe even something more sinister? But what can you really do? Do you even want to confront someone who’s spying on you, or maybe you don’t even realized that you are being watched. Or maybe you don’t care haha!! I don’t know, I just went dark and let this out.

To be honest, I haven’t felt my best this week. I just feel off kilter, unmotivated and rather blah – so that is probably what inspired me to go dark. I think I just need a beach vacation in a big way. We will be leaving for Virginia Beach toward the end of the month, and it can’t come soon enough. I think that is part of my problem, I am feeling a bit burnt out since I have not taken very much time off work at all this year.

So when you peek out your windows next time, think of me haha! I really don’t care if you watch me dancing like an idiot in my underwear, so THERE!! Have a great weekend everyone!

XOXO Colleen

Sorry you haven’t been feeling well. I loved the sonnet and the thoughts. I’ve never tried snails. You ate them so I didn’t have to.
