Surrender

Surrender

Down the mountainside a gentle breeze blows
Through the mighty maples and oaks so fair.
Past the gold meadows where the river flows
Nightingale crooning, love is in the air.

I found you sitting on the rocks alone
As day faded into velvet twilight.
Lost in this world, no one to call your own
While distant stars illuminate the night.

Look into my eyes, I can read your mind.
Hold my hands, feel the energy within.
A power to bring eyesight to the blind,
And I promise you’ll see the sun again.

Draw the curtains, let my love lift you higher
Surrender to this passion and desire.

Hello! We drove up to Michigan yesterday for a long weekend visiting my husband’s family. Today it has been raining all day, but we got to go into Rochester for an hour of downtown shopping, and then spent the afternoon with Dan’s older brother Steve, wife Vicky, Brother Jon and his wife Connie. We had dinner at Victoria’s in Oxford this evening. Steve is doing so much better, he’s had a host of health issues for about the last 8 months. Fortunately, he is getting stronger and gaining back his mobility. Tomorrow we are getting together with all the Michigan cousins for dinner.

It has been nice to get out of town for a long weekend after a challenging tax season! It has been difficult switching gears from working many hours of overtime to virtually none. I’m sure I will find other things to do. Our firm is starting their annual fitness challenge on May 1, so I better break out my running shoes again!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. 😊

xoxo Colleen

Momentum

Momentum

Fear pulls me downward
sinister thoughts creeping
in corners of my dark mind
gripping tight, talons sharp
as I bleed from the inside out
and rail to the heavens in rage
from the depths of an anguished soul.

Passion pushes me onward
parting a veil of diaphanous desire
satin hush, silken touch
the scent and taste of love
as the glorious sun glows
in effervescent rainbows
shining the light on my path.

Hope coaxes me upward
picking up the broken pieces
scattered amongst wayward leaves
a cool breeze permeates my skin
its soft kiss upon my cheek
determination coursing through my veins
as I break through the force field again.

Momentum carries me forward
out of a forlorn past
through hot burning coals
blistered feet, hot searing pain
leading to a tropical oasis
where I can frolic in the green
cool raindrops upon my tongue.

This post was written for the Instagram group Her Growth Collective @hergrowthcollective. The topic for the week for 11/11/2021 is “Momentum.”

Momentum is defined as the strength or force that something has when it is moving. It is also the strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes. I believe that the momentum in our lives can be generated both internally and externally. Sometimes we have the energy, desire and impetus to make positive changes in our lives. Other times, we simply roll with the waves and are forced to change, lest we sink and drown.

For me, many things have affected my life’s momentum. Fear, passion and hope are recurring themes that have carried me through and allowed me to change the direction of my life. Reflecting on this topic helped me to write my poem “Momentum” on the plane ride back home from my son’s wedding. Life is good, keep the momentum going!

A Little More Wine

A Little More Wine

The fireplace glows, the mood is set,
Sparks ignite like the day we met.
One glass of red, warm and divine…
May I have a little more wine?

Hot molten wax burns down the wicks
On sterling silver candlesticks.
Passion burning, I’m feeling fine…
May I have a little more wine?

Bright stars collide as our souls meet,
Quenching desires, savory sweet.
Lips taste of grapes straight from the vine…
May I have a little more wine?

The fireplace glows, the mood is set…
May I have a little more wine?

The Road To Resolution

The Road To Resolution

The Road to Resolution (A Kyrielle Sonnet)

Roads stretch far as the eye can see,
Speeding white lines hypnotize me.
Drive nonstop until morning light…
I’m going the distance tonight.

All bets off in the quest for fire,
The quiet search for heart’s desire.
Eight hundred miles to set things right…
I’m going the distance tonight.

Emerald streaks paint the night sky
Like a home dye job gone awry.
Your green eyes meet mine, sparkling bright…
I’m going the distance tonight.

Roads stretch far as the eye can see
I’m going the distance tonight.
