Princess Posie’s Tea Party
Tiara and ribbons in their hair, with tiny shoes of patent black,
They gather round the table, giggling in a playful pack.
Five-year-old beauties with painted lips and golden curls,
Balancing their poise on wobbly legs and graceful swirls.
Mother sets out Queen Charlotte china, gilded gold and cobalt blue,
Pouring steaming cups of lemon tea, sweet as honeydew.
They nibble crustless sandwiches and pass around the plates,
Above their rhinestone party hats, a party wonder awaits.
Tethered to each ivory chair were pastel helium balloons,
Swaying in time to phantom waltzes and tea-party tunes.
They shimmered pink and lavender, reflecting on the ceiling light,
Their spirits lifting higher to a magical, dizzying height.
With pinkies raised, they toast cheers to luck and royal grace,
And rule their tiny empire of shiny pearls and antique lace.
A flash of lipstick, sips of citrus, laughter floating on the air—
A happy little pack of princesses, perched on fancy folding chairs.

Dedicated to my granddaughter Posie Mae… my sweet little princess always!
The last thing I think of when you say party is a political party, grrr…. A party always makes me think of children’s parties first, which are probably the sweetest thing ever. At least when it comes to my grandchildren’s parties, anyway. It helps when your daughter is a fantastic party planner – which Katie certainly is! She spares no details – she really puts a lot of thought into themes, decorations, just the right kind of foods, treats and party favors. I always loved having parties, but mine were always pretty basic in comparison to Katie’s knack for planning parties. She’s a great, relaxed natural hostess, and the parties she has planned for the grandchildren have been extra special!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend Princess Posie’s tea party that particular year – her birthday falls in mid-January during my busiest work month when no PTO is allowed. So it is literally impossible for me to travel that month, but one of these years when I finally decide to retire that will no longer be an issue! I get so much FOMO when I’m not at their parties and hate missing out, it almost makes me feel sick. But with 4 grandchildren now – all living in Florida – it is physically and financially not possible for me to travel to every single one of their parties each year.
Here’s to another year of magical birthday parties – next up on November 25 – our sweet Holland turns ONE! Have a great weekend, all. xoxo
Love,
Colleen

I agree, a child’s birthday party is the best party of all! They are simply magical – the excitement, smiles and laughter are priceless. What a whimsical and delightful poem. KUDOS Dear Earthling! 👽💚🎂
