Lost Soul

Lost Soul

full
moon glows
amber bright
a chill wind blows
late October night
a light in the attic
pulses a rhythm of white
I climb the stairwell in a trance
while all around me, the demons dance
they float by aimlessly in the night air
the sound of desecration everywhere
the walls vibrate, as loud as thunder
I feel myself going under
fate will unwind as it must
burning bones turn to dust
drifting to the ground
deep in a hole
I fear I’ve
lost my
soul

Boo! What a spooky set of writing challenge prompts that led me in this direction. And this creepy picture sure helped put me in the mood for writing a spooky poem. Nothing like a creepy doll peeking out of the attic window to get your imagination piqued…This is a very off the cuff double etheree and doesn’t really mean anything. Just a little horror and my vivid imagination, I guess!

It does take me back to trick or treating in Western Maryland back in the late 60’s and early 70’s! Remember those cheap, creepy costumes that tied in the back, with the masks you couldn’t breathe in? LOL! They were probably not even flame retardant; you could have burned us to a crisp if an inattentive adult dropped their cigarette ashes on us by mistake LOL! Yeah, don’t mind me – this one was just a fun, whimsical and twisted write! Happy Halloween, y’all! Xoxo

Love ya,
Colleen
