The Light in My Eyes

In my search for moments of truth,
I wade past mistakes of my youth.
When stars shine in indigo skies,
You can see the light in my eyes.

Inhale the scent of sea and brine
Knee deep in tears at the shoreline.
At sunset when the seagull cries,
You can see the light in my eyes.

So don’t whisper in the grapevine,
I spill all my secrets like wine.
I’ve no need for masks or disguise,
You can see the light in my eyes.

Happy Saturday evening! I can’t believe it is the last day of May – where did the spring go? It has been unseasonably cold this week, and I’m sitting here tonight with a turtleneck sweater on. The weather has been brutal lately, with torrential winds and storms last night, and scattered showers today. We were hoping to get to the pool this weekend, but it looks like it will be another bust like the Memorial Day weekend weather!

This sonnet was inspired by a Todd Rundgren lyric from one of my favorite songs “I Saw the Light.” And of course, by wine lol! That’s all I’ve got – sorry I have not been online much. Work has busy with all kinds of new client work, and I’m also working on a video project for my Mental Health Employee Resource Group, of which I’m the co-chair at work. Every June our firm has “Firm Day,” where all the employees come together for fun, networking, motivational speakers, games, lunch, swag, and presentation of awards. Every other year it is held virtually (we gather instead at several local theaters they rent out) – and this is our virtual year. It’s a lot of fun, getting to meet colleagues from all across the region that you just see in Zoom meetings! Last year was simply amazing! This year’s theme is “Saturday Night Live,” and the video I’m producing is from a well-known skit on the show. More later – have a great weekend!
