Heart Heavy
With heart heavy, twilight grows nigh
And crescent moon glows in the sky.
The pinpoint stars stretch endlessly…
I need you tonight, beside me.
That familiar sorrow runs deep,
As midnight hour begins to creep.
This passion burns eternally…
I need you tonight, beside me.
Hold me close, wipe away my tears;
With your gentle voice, ease my fears.
Let us melt into ecstasy…
I need you tonight, beside me.
With heart heavy, twilight grows nigh…
I need you tonight, beside me.

Today was one of those emotionally exhausting days… filled with tears, laughter, hugs, memories, and bonding with family. Sharing familiar stories about relatives who passed that have been told hundreds of times, and hearing new ones about children and grandchildren. It was a heartbreaking and a healing day – if that is possible, which I believe it is. My Uncle Carroll was buried today, and there was much sadness that went with that. Dan and I went to Maryland for the funeral, and it was like old times again with the Keller family…but with far too many people missing. Hearing his adult sons and his granddaughter speak gutted me – gutted all of us, but we embraced them in their grief as all of us have endured this sorrow. And we KNOW the heartache, we feel it in our souls – for them, for the intense grief they are experiencing.
Here today, gone tomorrow. God, I do so hate that phrase…. it seems so cold, so cruel, but there is such truth to it. You do not have a crystal ball, you don’t when your time is up. It makes you think about what you are spending (or wasting) your time on doing, worrying, or making a priority in life. Today I got to bond again with cousins I had not seen in many years, to meet their children and grandchildren, to hug loved ones who have grown so frail… my heart was heavy, but I treasured every minute of it. If there’s any lesson, it’s embrace those around you – your family, your loved ones, your friends. Make the most of life, make memories, fill your heart with gratitude and fill theirs with love. And know that I love you!
Xoxo,
Colleen
