Circus Mind

Circus Mind

The road is steep, the night is long,
shadows whisper a secret song.
A broken past, hurt inner child,
a circus mind that’s running wild.

Rise from the ashes, high and free.
Rise like a phoenix to your destiny.

The flames that burned, now embers cold,
but strength stirs deep within your soul.
You fought through storms, all pain exiled,
a circus mind that’s running wild.

Rise from the ashes, high and free.
Rise like a phoenix to your destiny.

No chains remain, no fear to bind,
the past won’t break your fearless mind.
From dust to fire, now reconciled,
a circus mind that’s running wild.

Rise from the ashes, high and free.
Rise like a phoenix to your destiny.

Happy Saturday! This poem is about perseverance and overcoming challenges encountered in one’s life. I wrote the repeating refrain yesterday, slept on it and then built in the stanzas this morning. Kind of like putting a puzzle together, only with words – fun!

I have found The Serenity Prayer to be a guiding light for me when times get tough. Four simple lines that get deep into your soul and permeate the brain:

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

I have faithfully said this prayer daily for a number of years, absorbing the message word for word. Sometimes my mind feels like a three ring circus, thoughts and worries spinning in my head. I repeat this prayer in my mind endlessly when I run outdoors or if I am feeling anxious. Sometimes I recite it out loud if my mind is spiraling. It brings me to a place of calm serenity. It also helps me realize that there are simply some things that are out of my control, and that the only thing I can truly change is my own self. It’s a hard lesson that I have had to repeat so many times in life.

So if you are going through difficult times, try reciting this prayer. In time, it may help you find the peace and serenity you are seeking. Everyone deserves that. Have a great weekend, all!

Xoxo,
Colleen

  1. A wonderful song for serenity! I like the concept of a circus mind, where everything is in motion and changing. Well done – KUDOS Dear Earthling! ❤
