These Tired Eyes
In the corners of my mind sadness creeps,
Holding onto hope by a single string.
Thrashing and sinking in the ocean deep,
These tired eyes saw the worst of everything.
This feeling’s a blip in the book of life,
You must rise far above it, lest you drown.
Where do you go to escape pain and strife?
What do you do when it all crashes down?
Climb up the mountain, breathe in the fresh air
As you tilt your face to indigo skies.
Stars twinkle and flirt with galactic flair,
Such a welcome sight for these tired old eyes.
Changes will come, as sure as there is night.
In a world full of darkness, be the light.

Saturday is here, and it couldn’t come soon enough! Why is it that a short work week seems longer than usual? I believe it’s probably because we relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the long Labor Day Weekend. Dan and I went up to my sister Sarah’s house for a cookout, I made some killer Keller Baked Beans and quadruple berry cobbler (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries – yum!). Because I basically doubled the amount of fruit the recipe called for, the cobbler turned out HUGE – so we nicknamed it the Big, Beautiful Cobbler LOL! We had a nice time, chatting and laughing our asses off. My Mom was in such good spirits, it is always so wonderful to see her happy!
I’m only working two days this week, as early Wednesday morning I fly solo down to Florida for Katie’s “Baby Sprinkle.” She is pregnant with their little boy, Holland James, who is due on November 30. We are planning to wait until Christmas for a visit, as it is so much fun with the grandkids at Christmas. Last year, Christmas seemed so lonely not being with the little nuggets! After a visit with Katie’s crew, we will drive down to Vince and Natalie’s to celebrate a late Christmas with Anthony. We can’t go to Florida for both Thanksgiving and Christmas – so we chose Christmas!
I am hosting the Keep It Simple September (KISS) Writing Challenge, a daily writing prompt challenge throughout September. So if you’re reading this, check out my WordPress blog and Facebook post and join in at any time. You don’t have to be a writer or poet – you can post pictures, videos, thoughts, whatever you like! I hope the rest of your weekend is wonderful.
Xoxo,
Colleen
