A Day in the Life of Seagulls
the horizon glows
sun begins golden ascent
a new day awaits
hail the seagulls’ cry
sharp notes riding the sea breeze
as waves crash ashore
they glide gracefully
above deep aloe waters
rippled with sunlight
delicate landing
they pick through seashell remnants
for tasty morsels
they chase and frolic
helter skelter in the sand
playing hide and seek
they follow the sun
the red light refracting warmth
sense of solitude
moonlight on the waves
feathered shadows drift to sleep
dawn will call again

Wow, hard to believe it is already August! Where did July go? I can’t believe summer is just about over.
For some reason, sifting through Siouxsie and The Banshees song titles led me in this direction. My mind just drifted to a day at the beach, and watching the sea gulls frolic in the sand and where the waves kiss the shore. I’ve got many memories surrounding seagulls, the kids feeding them and being surrounded like The Birds, and photographing so many of them when we lived in Florida. Many people dislike them and find them annoying, but I actually think they’re cute and clever! I feed them probably when I shouldn’t, but they are just so entertaining and deserve a snack. Anyway, I always embrace a chance to write about the beauty found in nature – and in this case, those clever seagulls. Have a great weekend! Xoxo
Love, Colleen
