Black Water Beckons

Black Water Beckons

She wakes to the rising red sun
but her memory comes undone
as she clutches her pearls.
It seems that destiny has won,
her life feels like a hit and run.
And something has to give…

It breaks her heart, it breaks her heart.
It breaks her heart, it breaks her heart.

He watches her slow demise
as if she was in disguise,
but his words fall silent.
He looks to the starry skies,
as Mars and Jupiter rise.
And the black hole appears…

It breaks his heart, it breaks his heart.
It breaks his heart, it breaks his heart.

I stroll to the restless sea
to set my emotions free,
but I can’t hold back tears.
The black water beckons me
to drown out my misery.
And the waves come crashing down….

It breaks my heart, it breaks my heart.
It breaks my heart, it breaks my heart.

If I can’t keep you from falling,
I will keep you forever in memory.

Until the end,
Until the bitter end.

Happy Saturday! I hope your weekend is going well.

I did another lyric challenge for myself. I’m a little stuck on Radiohead for the past couple of years. I was watching some of their videos this week as I wrote for the COSMIC challenge. One of them was “Fake Plastic Trees,” one of their older songs from their album “The Bends” in 1995. That was the same year I saw them in concert, they were the fronting band for REM. I didn’t know anything about them, but they did sing that song. It didn’t strike me at the time, but this week I looked up the lyrics and decided to write my own. I take the syllable structure and rhyme scheme and basically do my own thing! It is so much fun.

As you can tell, this lyric poem is a story about a family whose mother is going through memory loss, and the family members feel helpless at her demise. It is completely fictional, but my heart goes out to anyone who has had to go through this with a beloved family member or loved one. I cannot imagine how devastating it must be for someone to lose their memory of who their family is, and to deal with all the other horrible situations related to dementia or Alzheimers. My love and prayers to all….. xoxo

Love,
Colleen
