Meandering
I buried sorrows from my past,
But fleeting peace, it did not last.
Haunting memories are my bane…
I want to let go of the pain.
Meandering in evening gloam,
I’m searching for the way back home.
Hot bourbon pulses through my veins…
I want to let go of the pain.
I had to fall to lose it all,
Now reality comes to call.
Dark sky erupts in cleansing rain…
I want to let go of the pain.
I buried sorrows from my past…
I want to let go of the pain.

Happy Saturday! I had no idea which way I was going to go when I started writing this sonnet this morning. As I sat down at the computer, the word “Meandering” randomly popped into my mind, when thinking about taking the long way home. I decided right then this would be the title and just started browsing Linkin Park lyrics to see where it would take me. The poem just kind of morphed from there.
I’m an oddity at my age, being a huge Linkin Park fan. I fell in love with their style when they exploded on the music scene in the 00’s. Chester Bennington’s chilling vocals have always been quite moving in their raw pain, the lyrics and musical style are a unique blend of rap and metal. What a loss, that he committed suicide, as he was a talented musician and beautiful soul whose music touched many – young and old.
I guess in our life journeys, our paths are rarely linear. We have all meandered a bit. I know that I certainly have, and every experience shaped me – the pain, the joys, the challenges, the triumphs. And all along the way, I’ve had a diverse musical soundtrack constantly playing to keep me moving forward. I hope you have a lovely weekend! Xoxo
Love,
Colleen
