Shining Fields of Green

Shining Fields of Green

Madrigal music fills the air
as we stroll the Renaissance Faire.
Troubadours dance and sing in rhyme,
my spirit transports back in time.

The memories wash over me
from stone castles of Kilkenny.
Moss laden towers with tall spires,
across the bridge, my heart’s desire.

A gentle wind swept ‘oer the moor,
infusing scent of roasted boar.
We drank goblets of sweetened mead
while villagers gathered to feed.

Irish maidens in woolen cloaks
whispered beneath the sessile oaks.
A crowd gathered ‘round blazing logs
as the sun set in misty fog.

Hands held high, they chanted in prayer
solemn hymns of hope and despair.
Releasing troubles of their souls,
turning to ash like burning coals.

I walked alone in falling rain
on that final day of Samhain.
The mist descends; I drift to sleep,
into a world where dreams run deep.

Here, there, everywhere in between,
I still see shining fields of green.
Across the pond, so far away…
where my restless heart longs to stay.

This week’s writing prompts took me on a journey to Ireland, dreaming about the stone castles, the moors, the sweeping green fields and the days of old. I’ve never been to Ireland, but I feel close to it due to my partial Irish roots. I think there’s both Irish and German in my ancestry, though I know a lot more about the Keller genealogy on my Dad’s side of the family.

After the very dark and somber month of September, I feel like I am starting to come out of this dense fog of heavy mourning. I started thinking of a “place across the pond” that I would love to visit someday. And that is what took my mind to Ireland. I let myself daydream and just play with imagery and lines. This is the result, after googling, visiting Kilkenny online, researching what you might find in medieval times. It was very fascinating and interesting.

I guess Ireland is now on my bucket list, maybe after we book our second trip to Italy. No set plans have been made yet, we’re just living our best lives and taking each day as it comes these days. We both work extremely hard all week and then basically rest, nest and run errands on the weekends. Yep, we are old LOL. But it’s okay, because home is where the heart is. And this is where I want to be for now… although, maybe someday we’ll get to visit Ireland.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend. Love you all!

Xoxo,
Colleen
