Violet Sorrow
violet sorrow
tropical monsoon of tears
on a sunny beach
burying the pain
face down in hot golden sand
suppressing my screams
calm on the surface
hidden behind smiling mask
lies my darkest side
despair takes me down
rage simmers to boiling point
but nobody knows
longing for escape
lure of the beckoning tide
grows ever stronger
my body sinks down
in cool indigo water
shock to the system
coming up for air
lungs gasp for life giving breath
eroding my fears
rhythm of the sea
calms my soul and gives me strength
as I tread water
tears melt into brine
hope infuses my brain waves
with will to survive

Happy Saturday! This is just a haiku series that I wrote by the pool. I don’t know what got me thinking of this one dark period of time, where I was on the edge of despair worried about something while trying to enjoy time on a beach. I remember hiding my face in the beach blanket and silently crying. Everyone around me was enjoying a beautiful day at the beach, but I was fully engulfed in a maelstrom of emotions that threatened to take me under.
So this is just little release from the past… I am happy to say that my life is so much calmer and at peace, and I thank God for that. Both my kids and all four grandkids are happy and healthy – truly a blessing. They say a mother is only as happy as her saddest child. They also say God only gives you what you can handle… I hope He’s tested me enough throughout the years and that I passed with flying colors!
I hope you have a wonderful remainder of your weekend! Xoxo
Love,
Colleen
