Broken Crystal
I looked in the mirror and what did I see?
A pale, gaunt stranger looking at me.
I’m falling apart
with a heavy heart.
Veils and visions, where do I begin?
Whispering why me to the wind.
Rage boils within my veins,
Everything blurs into tears and bloodstains…
There was broken crystal on the bathroom floor,
Broken crystal and nothing more.
I went down the stairs to pour me a drink,
But murky water flowed from the sink.
Heavy and alone,
I sink like a stone.
Down on my knees I’m chasing the sun,
But fearing my demons have won.
My lifeline is fading fast,
Please lay me to rest beyond the shattered glass…
There was broken crystal on the kitchen floor,
Broken crystal and nothing more.

Happy Saturday! We had a great quick trip to visit the nuggets and just got back on Tuesday night. Time went too fast, and we got to see Posie get her ears pierced (she was so brave), and spent lots of time with the kids. Holland is growing so fast, and now on the verge of walking. We had a family photo shoot by the bay on Saturday night, and I was delighted with how beautiful the pictures turned out!
I decided on the title before I even wrote this poem. The prompt “shattered glass” spoke to me, and I ended up writing this poem to the rhythm of one of Radiohead’s songs “Pyramid Song.” I love taking an artist’s song, figuring out the rhyme and syllable schemes and fitting in my own twists. I guess I have always wanted to be a lyricist, so this is my way of making my own dreams come true! This poem also integrates quite a few Zebrahead song titles that kind of went with the theme of despair and giving up – which is not a true reflection of my life or my current emotional state. In fact, it’s the exact opposite – I am actually very relaxed and happy, haha! Xoxo
Love,
Colleen
